2 Technical CEOs talk about cyber threats, space years and “Dark AI” Businessman

When I sat down with Lane Bess, the CEO of Deep Instinct and Dinakar Munagal, the CEO of Blaize, I did not expect conversation to move from AI-Powed’s cyber security after the calls of computer technology and space travel. But that’s what I like about these interviews – it’s yours just about business strategies or predictions. They are about how the leaders think, what is doing them, and I get a little looked at their experience as a leading business.
Lane operates a deep instinct, a company of cyber security using deep AI learning to avoid attacks earlier. He talked about how “Dark AI” makes prevention critical, because cyber threats evolve with the speed of fighting. Dinakar, Blaize, builds semiconductor chips for EDGE AI – basically brings the brain power of AI directly to the place where the data is captured. At least that’s what my non -technology brain understood when he told me about it.

What stuck with me was their view AI as a Savior and threat. Both CEOs see as pure positive for society, yet they are realistic about their risks. Lane pointed out how AI makes cyber attacks exponentially faster and more dangerous. Dinakar noted that wars have evolved from people to machines and now we are entering the era Ai warfare. It was persistent, but it was necessary to hear the leader to recognize the dark side of the tools they promote.
We also touched their personal days. Lane shared how he grew up and wanted financial security after childhood in a broken house, while Dinakar blamed the business roots of his family in India – from his grandfather he transported rice through the waterway to the management of his father. Both left stable corporate paths for more risky businesses and both admitted that fear played a role. Dinakar called Intel “Crazy at that time” while Lane described his almost signing with the unfortunate titanium mission Oceangate as at the time of the break that left him thankful for a good judgment.
Then there was space. Lane was twice in space with Blue and is an investor in the years Zero G. Asked why rich people spend millions in the orbit of the Earth where they are problematic, he said it was a pioneering technology that should be practical for all events. He knows criticism, but his belief in the future boundaries of humanity drives him ahead. This interview took place shortly after the infamous flight of Katy Perry, where this crew Blue Origin received quite a lot of public resistance for its space flight.

As I left this conversation, I found that we Lysself was thinking about the technical details of cyber security or AI and more about the thinking it needs to build companies in these premises. Both Lane and Dinakar bear urgency in their work – understand the risk, betting and speed at which it all evolves. But besides, there is a sense of responsibility in how they lead. It reminded me that in industries that move quickly, the leadership is not just about the vision of what will happen next. The point is that there is a belief before anyone else does it with integrity, so we create a better world.
